  • After Mass Oct 13, 1884, heard a vision: Satan boasts he could destroy the Church if given 75–100 years and more power; Our Lord permits it. Pope sees future wars, apostasy, persecution, then composes the Prayer to St. Michael as a spiritual defense.

  • In the longer version of the St. Michael prayer, he petitioned St. Michael against “Satan’s abominable impiety” in Rome, “the Holy Place,” foreseeing a future apostasy and spiritual attack even in the Vatican itself.

  • “What I have seen is terrifying! Will I be the one, or will it be a successor? What is certain is that the Pope will leave Rome and, in leaving the Vatican, he will have to pass over the dead bodies of his priests!” Vision of a future Pope fleeing Rome during great crisis.

  • “I have seen one of my successors, of the same name, fleeing over the bodies of his brethren. He will take refuge in some hiding place; but after a brief respite, he will die a cruel death.” Suggesting a future Pope Pius.
