Divided all church history into seven “ages.” The fifth age “affliction, desolation, humiliation… heresies, apostasy” ends with the rise of the Holy Pope and Great Monarch, inaugurating the sixth age “Age of Consolation”/Peace, a glorious period for the Church. After the sixth, comes the age of Antichrist and the Last Judgment.
Predicted in the “fifth age” disaster: apostasy, moral collapse, civil/religious decline; “heretics and tyrants” invade, Rome is attacked and burned, enemies in control. The Church will seem destroyed, but God will bring about a “wonderful change”—the Monarch and Angelic Pontiff restore peace and unity.
Prophesied a “valiant Monarch anointed by God” descendant of Louis IX and German imperial family, born in exile will destroy heresies, unite Christendom, restore peace on earth; at the same time, the “Holy Pope” reigns, a new council defines doctrine, worldwide unity.
After tribulation, “Sixth Age” described as era of Catholic renewal—sciences, arts, and spiritual life flourish, Holy Scripture unanimously interpreted, Satan bound and atheism/heresies suppressed; peace lasts until Antichrist.
Predicted destruction of Rome by a “genocidal war” started by the French after they have lost the faith, the burning of churches esp. St Peter’s, invasion by Turks/Moors, Church ruined, clergy exiled/imprisoned, apostasy and disaster. Three days of massacre described; prophecy linked with Three Days of Darkness tradition.
After these chastisements: the Church restored by a holy Pope possibly a Franciscan, the “Angelic Pontiff,” and the emergence of a victorious “beautiful company” for Jesus, Mary, and the Cross. Peace and renewal will follow; exhortations to conversion and repentance; a new era for the Church planted and renewed.
Before the coming of the Antichrist, God will one last time defend the Church and raise up a great ruler who will defeat the enemies of the Holy Roman Empire, especially the Turks, retake lost lands, and restore them to Christianity. After the birth of the Antichrist, faith will greatly decline, the clergy and people will be corrupt, and only a small remnant will remain faithful.
God will assist His Church with a period of victory and restoration before the ultimate apostasy and tribulation under the Antichrist. Followers of this Monarch will restore conquered nations to the true faith, ushering a period of Christian unity and power. Afterward, the world will fall again into sin for the last tribulation.
Revealed that in the last times, “all heresies will disappear” through the intercession of the Mother of God. The victory over heresy is reserved for Mary; before Christ’s Second Coming, Mary will shine more than ever, convert unbelievers, and extend Christ’s reign over all nations.
Prophesied that his book “True Devotion to Mary” would be “enveloped in silence” and “lost” after his death, then re-discovered “at the end of times”—fulfilled in 1842, and now considered a classic of Marian spirituality.
